You can delete your Eklaysia member account at any time. This page explains the two ways to do it, exactly what is removed, what your church is legally required to retain, and how long the process takes.
1. Delete your account in the app
- Open the Eklaysia app and sign in.
- Go to the Me tab.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm the deletion. Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out on all devices.
2. Or request deletion by email
If you no longer have the app installed or cannot sign in, email us instead:
- Write to info@thompsoncherian.com with the subject “Account deletion request”.
- Send it from the email address registered on your account, or include the mobile number registered on your account so we can verify it is really you.
- We verify the request and complete the deletion within 7 days, and confirm by reply.
3. What is deleted
- Your sign-in identity — phone number, email, password and two-factor credentials used to log in;
- all of your active sessions, on every device;
- your device push-notification tokens — no further notifications are sent;
- the link between your login and your church profile — your account can no longer access, and is no longer connected to, any church workspace.
4. What your church retains — and why
Your church, as the custodian (Data Fiduciary) of its own congregation records, retains the records it is legally obliged to keep even after your account is gone:
- Giving records and tax receipts — 80G receipts and donation records must be kept under the Income-tax Act, 1961 (including Form 10BD reporting) and, where applicable, FCRA rules;
- Statutory registers — entries in baptism, marriage, membership and similar registers are permanent church records;
- Accounting ledgers — financial books are append-only by law and by design; entries referencing past donations or payments are not erased;
- Audit logs — the record of administrative actions is preserved for accountability and safeguarding.
These records are kept because the law requires the organisation to keep them — not for any commercial purpose. Once your account is deleted they are no longer connected to any sign-in. Messages you previously posted in church channels remain part of the community's history, subject to your church's retention settings; you can ask your church office about its policy for member profiles and non-statutory records.
5. Timeline
- Immediately: your sign-in identity is anonymised, sessions are revoked and push tokens are removed (for email requests: within 7 days, after verification).
- Within 30 days: residual copies of your account data in encrypted backups age out automatically.
You do not need an account to browse a church's public website. Deleting your account does not close your church's workspace — it removes your access and login only.
